THE CONSTITUTION

THE CONSTITUTION

The International Movement of Catholic Students, Australia is an association of university student groups that share a common Catholic faith.

The corporate title of the association is the International Movement of Catholic Students, Australia.


Definitions

1.1. Movement means the International Movement of Catholic Students, Australia.

1.2. Council means the National Council of the International Movement of Catholic Students, Australia.

1.3. Team means the National Team of the International Movement of Catholic Students, Australia.

1.4. A region is made up of all the affiliated campus groups within each state, unless otherwise determined by the National Council.

1.5. Pax Romana means the Joint Secretariat of the International Movement of Catholic Students and the International Catholic Movement for Intellectual and Cultural Affairs.

Objectives

2.0. We aim to

2.0.1. be a movement of peer formation for Catholic students in Australian Universities.

2.0.2. promote the growth of the Catholic student movement in Australia.

2.1. To these ends we seek

at the individual level, to

2.1.1. initiate and support the personal formation of Catholic university students through formation meetings and the National Conference, and by encouraging peer formation.






at the campus level, to

2.1.2. develop close relationships with those religious groups present in the university with whom we share a common spirit.

2.1.3. recognise the importance of the role of chaplains in student formation.

at the national level, to

2.1.4. develop and facilitate communication among our members, with the purpose of sharing spiritual support and learning, leading to a deeper involvement in Christ's' mission in the world.

2.1.5. strive to work with other lay apostolate and agencies where our mission coincides, in the spirit of co-operation.

2.1.6. keep close contact with the Australian Catholic Bishops' Conference through the Bishops' Committee for Laity.

at the international level, to

2.1.7. maintain and develop contacts with appropriate international bodies, including Pax Romana, to which we are affiliated.

2.1.8. develop contacts with all other groups concerned with the building of a more just society.

National Council

3.0. The National Council is the governing body of the Movement.

3.1.
The National Council consists of:

3.1.1. one representative from each campus group

3.1.2. the members of the National Team

3.1.3. any observers.

3.1.4 Each representative is elected by his or her group.

3.2. The National Council will meet at least once a year.

3.3.
The Secretary of the National Team will call meetings of the National Council and will give each affiliated group at least four weeks notice of the date and place of any Council meeting.



3.4.
Voting at the National Council:

3.4.1. the quorum consists of one third of those with voting rights.

3.4.2. Representatives will be eligible to vote at the National Council when affiliation fees have been paid three months before a Council, or may affiliate at the time of the council at the discretion of the affiliated members.

3.5. No Council member may exercise more than one vote.



The National Team

4.0. Composition of the National Team:

4.0.1. The Team consists of a representative from each region, the National Chaplain/s, and the National worker or workers.

4.0.2. The Team members will appoint from among themselves a Chairperson, a Secretary and a Treasurer.

4.1. The role of the National Team:

4.1.1. The role of the Team is to facilitate communication among all members of the Movement at the regional and national level. With this ongoing contact the Team will work to promote the objectives of the Movement.


4.1.2. The Team attends to all the business of the Movement between meetings of the Council, and is responsible for all its actions to the Council.


4.2. Appointment of the Team:

4.2.1. The members of each region will elect a representative to the Team.

4.2.2. The National Worker is appointed by the Council on the recommendation of the Team.

4.2.3. The National Chaplain is appointed by the Council on the recommendation of the Team.




Finance

5.0. The annual affiliation fee payable by each campus group is determined each year by the Council.

5.1. The National Council, on behalf of the Movement, shall commit itself to joint signatures of two or three members of the Team for all accounts.

5.2. The commitment of the Movement shall be guaranteed by the Movements corporate resources.

5.3. The accounts of the Movement are to be audited annually.

Interpretation

6.0. The Team will interpret the Constitution.
